Conti and Katanga can do Better

If we are to have peace between Unity Hall (Conti) and University Hall (Katanga) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional. Our loyalties must transcend over parochialism and hall of affiliation. This means, we must develop KNUST campus with collective responsibility perspective.

No Katangee or Continental can live alone in KNUST. No hall is greater than the soul and life of any individual student in KNUST. As long as we try, the more we are going to have hooliganism and violence on campus.

Now the judgment of God is upon us and we must either learn to live together as fellow Continentals in solidarity and brotherhood so that we can stand against the maladjusted policies by the Authorities and our national leaders that have made campus life unbearable.

I believe we must strongly build our brains as students more than our muscles. I believe it is about time we started relishing mind-power over man-power as KNUST students. I believe as intellectuals, we must take solace in dialogue and not violence.

No Continental or Katangee was admitted in KNUST hating each other because of hall of affiliation. We are the same people who came from the same SHS, you are in the same lecture hall, same mosque, same church and even same group studies.  The prime motive of being here is ACADEMICS. If today students from both halls have learned to hate, they can be taught to love. Love comes more naturally than hate.

I dedicate this to all students who have been victimised by this fabricated myth about Conti-Katanga bloody and fierce rivalry which is indeed a MUMBO JUMBO making the ordinary student linger in a LIMBO.

Speedy recovery Jacob Darko, a Katangee who was beaten to unconsciousness and also to all Continentals who suffered the 3rd May riot by the rival halls. My heart goes out to you all.

We are only rivals but not enemies!!! May God give us understanding. Amen.
