KNUST SRC Room Allocation Could Be Better

In this 21st Century, registration processes for room allocation should never be cumbersome with the improvement of computers, but the story is entirely different for KNUST SRC room allocation.

It is very sad and disheartening to meet over three hundred students queuing just to get access to their room keys in a science and technology institutions like KNUST.

Despite the slow pace of the process, the procedures are too insurmountable. One has to join different long queues for each activity. One annoying thing is that after joining the long queue to take pictures, the pictures are never issued.

The frustration continues with the four page terms and conditions of the hostel, which you are supposed to fill. I can testify that most people did not read that document as they only filled the portion that was required of them due to it voluminous nature.

You then form a queue where you will meet the hostel manager in a room where your room number will be allocated to you. This room is entered in four’s and it takes about forty-five minutes, close to an hour for the next set of four to enter the room. Due to this slow nature, many people are not attended to and this also leads to another problem. More than fifty per cent do get room the same day they start this long process, hence either they found a place elsewhere and continue the next day or had to sleep in a temporal room which creates a lot of inconveniences.

This should not be said about a hostel of such magnitude and in a premier science university in West Africa, KNUST. Most of these processes could easily be avoided. The taking of the photographs could be scanned online, same with the filling of the forms or the four paged documents. People should be allowed to choose their rooms online in place of the long queue formed at the hostel.

I hope and believe the authorities will adopt this online system of room allocation which is more convenient and faster and will also take the stress away from them.
