The Opoku Ware Old Boys’ Association (Akatakyie) is on the move again to lift the image of their alma mater, Opoku Ware School (OWASS) higher by refurbishing the dining hall of the school.

This project follows Akatakyie’s renovation of Burgess Hall (an auditorium of the school) to a state-of-the-art facility last year.

The sod cutting ceremony to commence the project was done by the “AN” year group on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in front of the school’s dining hall as their silver jubilee project.

The “AN” group of the Akatakyie fraternity completed Form 5 in 1991 and Upper Six in 1993.

The project includes the resurfacing of all 200 tables in the dining hall, upgrading the tutors’ dining area, providing a modern PA system for announcements, replacing all louvre blades, floor tiling, painting works, among others.

At the short ceremony, commemorative tiles to symbolise the start of the project were laid by the headmaster on behalf of the school, as well as representatives from the teaching staff, the chaplaincy, the old students, the student body, and the “AN” group.

In a short address by the headmaster of OWASS, Dr. Alexis Frimpong Nimoh, he thanked the “AN” group for their bold initiative and was hopeful that other year groups, as well as the broader fraternity, would step up to assist the school in diverse ways.
