myJCR.com brings you an exclusive letter released and signed by E. A. Amartey, Director of Academic Affairs Directorate of University of Ghana, dated June, 2014 on CHANGES IN THE GRADES OF STUDENTS.

The letter reads,

The Business and Executive Committee has noted challenges with the entry of grades under the 4-Year Degree Programme. The challenges have to do with the provision of old course codes by some Departments, wrong capturing of grades in the old grading system by some examiners and registration of old course codes by students.

The Committee observed that the situation, if left as it is, places a large number of students at a disadvantage through no fault of theirs. Consequently, the Committee has decided that all grades returned under the old grading system should be converted to the new grading system. The Committee took this position aimed at ensuring fairness for all students.

The Committee further decided that for students currently in Level 400 who had initially passed courses under the old grading system but would fail as a result of the conversion of the new grading system should be given the following options:

Be awarded “Audit” grade for the course
OR
Be allowed to resit the course at the next available opportunity at no cost to them.

The Committee emphasized that these options do not apply across board but only to Level 400 students.

The letter above was copied to the VC, Pro-VC, Registrar and Director of PAD.
