UEW VC warns against occultism practice

Professor Mawutor Avoke, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education Winneba (UEW), has counseled students to stay completely away from drugs and the practice of occultism.

These, he said, could ruin their academic careers and must therefore be avoided.

Prof Avoke was speaking at a matriculation ceremony held for new students admitted to pursue various undergraduate and graduate programmes at the University’s College of Technology Education in Kumasi.

A total of 3,086 students, made up of 2,086 males and 1,003 females would be doing undergraduate programmes.

For the graduate 141 students were admitted – 93 of them men and 48 women.

The Vice Chancellor reminded them to lead decent lives and let their education bring benefits not only to other members in the university community but every community but wherever they might find themselves.

University education, he noted, offered the opportunity for students to develop their intellect to be able to contribute meaningfully to the development of society.

It was therefore important for students to always get right with the law and to ensure that civility reflected in their daily actions.

Prof Avoke complained about the lack of teaching facilities and limited human resources and said these had combined to make it impossible to admit more students.

He encouraged the students to take advantage of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities on the campus to improve on research and academic work.
