Legon SRC will not participate in the NUGS Congress

We regret to announce to the leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students that the University of Ghana Students Representative Council will not participate in the non-residential Congress scheduled to take place on Thursday 10th October, 2013 for the purpose of elections.

Our decision is informed by the fact that we have been notified of a legal suit filed against a candidate with the Steering Committee Chair and the NUGS president as part of the suit.

We think this dilly dally with the destiny of Ghanaian students is most shameful and unfortunate so we wish not to be part of it. Aside the above we have not been dignified with any official invitation from anybody whatsoever regarding any congress.

For us, this is not only reminiscent of an administrative indiscipline, but speaks volumes about how low we see one another in the high service to students. Pari passu, we are highly disappointed in the seeming bona vacantia status of our Union and we fall slightly short of declaring secession from our mother Union, only because of a strong commitment to the cause of posterity.

We openly declare our opposition to the masochistic intransigence being perpetrated by certain parochial syndicates within and without the Union, whose avowed commitment to God and themselves is to draw NUGS back.

It is not the desire of the over 50,000 students we represent , that we participate in an activity that is a foregone gathering of dissident arguing voices with no end ever in sight.

We have arrived at this painful decision with faith after a deep assessment, a deeper introspection and re-introspection of the state of NUGS. Our doors remain open to all the students of this mighty Republic, who like us believe, that the National Union of Ghana Students can do better and will join us insist on that.

Thank you.
